Triple A Toledo

33-43, fourth place, International League West

Who's hot …

Thad Weber, RH starter: In his second tour with the Tigers, and is 30 years old, but nothing wrong with a pitcher who is 3-1, with a 2.30 ERA, in his last 10 starts for the Mud Hens.

And who's not …

A few too many to choose from. Godspeed, Mud Hens manager Larry Parrish.

Double A Erie

29-44, sixth place, Eastern League West

Who's hot …

Josh Turley, LH starter: Gets the job done, throws a knuckler, and has these numbers in his 14 starts: 2.76 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, .245 opposing batting average. Turley, 24, was a 16th-round pick (Baylor) in 2012.

And who's not …

Connor Harrell, OF: Seventh-round pick from Vanderbilt (2013) hasn't had a pleasant year: .189 in his last 10, .229 on the season, with a .619 OPS.

Single A Lakeland

35-37, third place, Florida State League North

Who's hot …

Javier Betancourt, 2B: Good development story in Betancourt, who last month turned 20, and who is batting .317 in his last 10 games. Only hitting .259 for the season, but has been ticking upward, which is telling for a 6-foot, 180-pound, right-handed hitter signed out of Venezuela in 2011.

Francisco Martinez, 3B: Not the prospect he was before the Tigers dealt him to Seattle in the Doug Fister deal, but batting .342 in his last 10 and, at age 24, not giving up. Martinez is 6-2, 210, bats right-handed.

Montreal Robertson, RH reliever: 1.33 ERA in his last 10 games for a 6-4, 205-pounder with a season ERA 3.34 and a WHIP of 1.31. Season opposing batting average (17 games): .206.

And who's not …

Ben Verlander, OF: Started strong, but is batting .139 in his last 10 games, .217 on the year, with a .591 OPS.

Single A West Michigan

35-38, sixth place, Midwest League Eastern

Who's hot …

Spencer Turnbull, RH starter: Last year's second-round pick (Alabama), is 5-2, with a 2.67 ERA and .225 opposing batting average in 11 starts. Turnbull, 22, is 6-3, 215.

Johan Belisario, RH reliever: Consistent season for a pitcher who could be part of some trade discussions in July: 1.82 ERA in 21 games, with 28 strikeouts in 291/3 innings. Belisario is 21, was signed out of Venezuela, is 5-11, 165.

Joe Jimenez, RH reliever: Good, and getting better: 0.84 ERA in his last 10 games, 1.66 on the season (21 games). He is only 20, is 6-3, 220, and is headed to next month's Futures Game, the showcase for top minor-league prospects.

And who's not …

Zach Shepherd, OF: Still in a bit of a funk, which isn't a shock when you're 19 and dealing against pitching that's often two or more years advanced. Shepherd is from Australia, bats right-handed, and is 6-3, 185.
