Seattle – The Tigers Tuesday designated for assignment veteran utility infielder Josh Wilson to clear a roster spot for first baseman Marc Krauss, whom they claimed and signed from Tampa Bay.
Wilson hit .381 in 11 games with the Tigers.
Manager Brad Ausmus said on Monday the plan was to play left-handed hitting Krauss at first base against right-handed pitchers and Jefry Marte at first against right-handed pitchers – depending on how they perform.
Andrew Romine, a switch-hitter, will also play some at first.
Krauss got the start Tuesday night against Mariners righty Taijuan Walker, and he will hit seventh.
All-Star first baseman Miguel Cabrera will be out six to eight weeks with a left calf injury.
