Detroit — Interesting choice.

As first reported by MLB.com and the Toledo Blade, shortstop Dixon Machado has been recalled from Triple-A Toledo. He will replace first baseman Marc Krauss, who was put on paternity leave.

Machado not only doesn’t play first base, he’s a right-handed hitter and the Tigers will face three right-handed starters this weekend against the Orioles.

Machado, hitting .272 with a .683 OPS in Toledo, played in the Triple-A All-Star game Wednesday in Omaha.
