Who’s hot …

Manny Pina, C: He’s batting .538 in his last 10 games with a home run and nine RBIs. In 70 games for the Mud Hens, Pina’s hitting .295, with an .804 OPS. Pina, 28, is 6-foot, 215, bats right-handed, and was grabbed by the Tigers in a 2014 cash deal with the Mariners.

Jose Valdez, RH reliever: ERA in his last 10 games at Toledo is a handsome 1.15. What ERA doesn’t take into account: 10 walks in 152/3 innings.

And who’s not …

Daniel Fields, OF: Just hasn’t meshed for Fields. He’s batting .158 in his last 10 games, .232 for the year. Fields played at U-D Jesuit High. Was a sixth-round pick in 2009.

Double A Erie

Who’s hot …

Wynton Bernard, OF: He’s batting a searing .405 in his last 10 games, .299 on the year. He turns 25 next month, hits right-handed, and is 6-2, 195.

Dominic Ficociello, 1B: .291 on the season, with a pair of homers and five RBIs Thursday. Which has been pleasant news for Erie manager Lance Parrish, as well as for Ficociello, a switch-hitter who was a 12th-round pick (Arkansas) in 2012.

Gabe Hemmer, RH reliever: At three different stops. Hemmer, 25, has a 1.13 ERA in his last 10 games, with 19 strikeouts in 16 innings against four walks. He was a 24th-round pick by the Tigers in 2014 (San Diego Christian).

Paul Voelker, RH reliever: Has had a sweet six-game run: no runs, three hits, seven strikeouts, one walk in 71/3 innings. Voelker, who earlier this month turned 23, was a 10th-round pick in 2014 (Dallas Baptist).

And who’s not …

Connor Harrell, OF: Lamentable year for Harrell, a seventh-round choice in 2013 (LSU): .229, and .152 in his last 10 games.

Single A Lakeland

Who’s hot …

Kevin Ziomek, LH starter: Good second half for Ziomek, who has a .125 opposing batting average for August, and a 1.18 WHIP on the season (25 starts). He was a second-round grab in 2013 (Vanderbilt).

Ben Verlander, OF: .324 in his last 10 games, which is nice news at the Verlander homestead in Virginia. He was drafted in the 14th round in 2013, from the same alma mater (Old Dominion) as his older brother.

And who’s not …

Jairo Labourt, LH starter: Labourt, in his last 10 appearances: 7.33 ERA. Has allowed 72 hits and walked 20 in 462/3 innings. Labourt is 21, is 6-4, 205.

Single A West Michigan

Who’s hot …

Joey Pankake, 2B: Smooth 10-game stretch for Pankake: .371 batting average. He is a 6-2, 185-pound, right-handed batter the Tigers picked in the seventh round (2014) from the University of South Carolina.

Joe Jimenez, RH reliver: Last seven games (nine innings): three hits, 13 strikeouts, one walk. He is 20 years old, is 6-3, 220.

Single A Connecticut

Who’s hot …

Cam Gibson, OF: .306 in his last 10 games, with a home run. Has a .761 OPS in 33 games for the Tigers. Gibson was a fifth-round grab in June (Michigan State). He is 6-foot, 180, bats left-handed.

Tyler Alexander, Matt Hall, Ryan Castellanos, Ps: All were draft picks from June, and all have been part of a pitching cadre that has been Connecticut’s calling card.

Gulf Coast League (rookie)

Beau Burrows, RH starter: In 10 starts, he has a 1.61 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP, thanks to these 28-inning numbers: 18 hits, 33 strikeouts, 11 walks. He is 6-2, 200.
