Forbes: Tigers rank 14th in value at $1.15 billion

Forbes estimates the Tigers are worth $1.15 billion, ranking them 14th among the 30 major league franchises.

Forbes says the Tigers’ value decreased from last season, when they ranked 13th at $1.125 billion. Their 2016 revenue was $268 million and their operating income was $11 million, Forbes says.

Owner Mike Ilitch paid $82 million for the team in 1992.

The Tigers finished last in the AL Central in 2015, and their local TV ratings on Fox Sports Detroit fell 25 percent from 2014. The Tigers still rated as the No. 4 local TV market in MLB, drawing an average 8.58 rating.

The Yankees are worth $3.4 billion, up 6 percent from last year and the highest evaluation for the 19th straight year.

Forbes claims the average value of an MLB team increased 7 percent in the last year to $1.3 billion.
