Detroit — The team leader in home runs finally gets his first start of the season.

Victor Martinez, who was limited to pinch-hitting duties with the Tigers opening in a National League city, Miami, will bat fourth and be the designated hitter for Brad Ausmus in the home opener at Comerica Park on Friday afternoon.

Martinez got two pinch-hit at-bats in Miami, and homered both times — becoming the first player since at least 1914 to hit pinch-hit homers in a team's first two games.

Martinez, coming off a leg injury last season, didn't hit his second home run of the season until June 21.

His slugging percentage in the early going is a maxed-out 4.000.

The Tigers are off to a 2-0 start, and will try to win their eighth consecutive home opener when they play the New York Yankees shortly after 1 p.m.
