Shane Greene moving up to Toledo in rehab stint
Detroit – Next stop for Shane Greene – Toledo.
Greene, the fifth starter in the Tigers rotation who’s been on the DL since April 25, made his first rehab start Friday night in Fort Wayne. Pitching for low-A West Michigan, he threw 42 pitches in three shutout innings.
He allowed two hits and a walk, while striking out five.
“Everything felt good,” said Greene, who was back in the Tigers’ clubhouse Saturday morning. “Overall, my arm felt really good. The ball was coming out good. I was pretty happy with what my pitches were doing and where they were going. Pretty happy.”
He said he was sore Saturday, but it was the normal muscle soreness. It was a blister on his right middle finger that split open and sent him to the DL. He had no issues with the finger Friday.
He did take a ground ball off his ankle during the game, but he stayed in the game and finished his three innings.
“It caught more cleat than my ankle,” he said. “It’s a little bit tender, but it’s fine.”
Manager Brad Ausmus said Greene would throw a side session Sunday. His next rehab start will be Wednesday at Triple A Toledo. He is scheduled to throw 60 pitches.
“I am sure I will have to make one or two more (rehab starts),” Greene said. “As long as it feels good. I’m going to do what they tell me to do.”
