Reports out of Mexico and from ESPN Deportes say former Tigers outfielder Karim Garcia will undergo surgery after having his nose and ribs broken in an assault in Mexico.

Garcia was pulled from his truck in Coahuila, taken to another city, Saltillo, where the beating took place.

Garcia, who played 104 games and hit 14 home runs with the Tigers in 1999 and 2000, took to social media from the hospital.

Translated by the New York Daily News, he wrote, “Thank you all for caring about me. Your show of support fills me with happiness. In the soul of God, bless you all.”

Garcia, 40, played 10 seasons in the Major Leagues with Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Orioles, Indians, Yankees, Mets and Tigers. He presently plays in the Mexican Baseball League for Saraperos de Saltillo.
