Kinsler finishes 3rd in All-Star Final Vote tally

Ian Kinsler’s bid to make next week’s All-Star Game at San Diego ended Friday, unsuccessfully.

Kinsler, whose splendid 2016 season has bumped against sterling seasons by Jose Altuve and Robinson Cano, had a shot at making the American League team as he competed in a runoff vote with Michael Saunders (Blue Jays), George Springer (Astros), Dustin Pedroia (Red Sox) and Evan Longoria (Rays).

Saunders was named winner when voting ceased at 4 p.m., Friday. Springer was second, while Kinsler edged Pedroia to finish third.

Kinsler, 34, is having a bonanza year: .294 batting average heading into Friday’s game, with 16 home runs, and an .848 OPS.
