The night Reggie Jackson hit the light tower in Detroit

Detroit News writer Lynn Henning remembers when Reggie Jackson of the Oakland A's hit a mammoth home run at Tiger Stadium in the 1971 All-Star Game.

In the bottom of the third inning and with a 25 mph wind blowing out to right field, Jackson belted a pitch from Dock Ellis of the Pittsburgh Pirates that would've left the park if it hadn't hit the light tower and fallen back on to the playing field.

Tigers broadcaster Ernie Harwell called it the hardest-hit ball he'd ever seen. Former Detroit News columnist Joe Falls said, "You can't hit a ball much harder that that."

Here's a few Tweets in response to Henning's comments.
