Tigers-Twins postponed; doubleheader Thursday

Minneapolis — The rains came in the bottom of the third inning Wednesday, around 9:15 EDT, and did not relent.

The middle game of the three-game series with the Twins was postponed. The teams will play a split doubleheader Thursday — 2:10 p.m. and 8:10 p.m.

The Tigers will start Anibal Sanchez (7-13, 5.90) in the first game and Justin Verlander (14-8, 3.22) in the second.

There was no score before the rains came, though the Tigers threatened in the first two innings against Twins starter Jose Berrios. They left the bases loaded in the first and stranded James McCann at third with one out in the second after he doubled.

They were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position in just three innings.

Tigers starter Buck Farmer was attempting to work out of his second two-on, two-out jam when the storm hit in the third.
He struck out Joe Mauer and Kennys Vargas with two on in the first, then struck them out again with two on the in third.

He was about to pitch to Max Kepler when the game was delayed.

The game was called 90 minutes later and all that action was wiped away. The game will start fresh Thursday.
