Tigers’ Verlander spends off-day working on ‘tipping’
Justin Verlander’s start Saturday left many wondering, “What happened?”
Verlander allowed a career-high-tying nine earned runs in a 13-6 loss to the Indians, leading to stories that included sign-stealing and, on Sunday, about the possibility the Tigers ace was tipping his pitches.
On Monday, a short video of him tipping back something else was posted on his Twitter page: A beer, while sitting in a pool under sunny skies.
Above it, he tweeted: “Working on my tipping. #nooffdays.”
The Tigers (8-4) were off Monday, after taking two of three from the Indians in Cleveland. The one clunker was Saturday, in which Verlander allowed the nine runs on 11 hits in just four innings. He’s now 1-1 with a 5.71 ERA.
The Tigers return to action Tuesday, opening a three-game series in Tampa.
