Tigers' Boyd fined, Twins' Sano suspended for dust-up
Detroit — Tigers starter Matthew Boyd is a little lighter in the wallet, but at least he avoided a suspension.
Major League Baseball Monday said Boyd was fined an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing a pitch at the Twins’ Miguel Sano in the fifth inning of the Tigers’ win Saturday.
Sano was suspended for one game for what the league called “aggressive actions” which caused the benches to empty.
James McCann, who raised the ire of the Twins players for his aggression toward Sano, was neither fined nor suspended.
Boyd’s next start is expected to be Friday against the White Sox. Sano is appealing his suspension.
