Tigers' Joe Jimenez placed on 4-week rehab program
Detroit — None of this has gone as Joe Jimenez hoped or thought it would.
The 22-year-old, right-handed power pitching prospect got his call-up to the Tigers in April and it was a minor disaster. He was tagged for six hits and six runs in 4⅓ innings before getting sent back down to Triple-A Toledo.
Although he pitched 6⅓ scoreless innings for the Mud Hens, racking up 13 strikeouts, he suffered a back strain and was placed on the disabled list last week.
The injury has been slow to respond so, as first reported by the Toledo Blade and confirmed by the Tigers, Jimenez is being sent to Lakeland for a four-week strength and rehabilitation program.
There is no timetable for when he might resume his throwing program.
