Tigers to honor 1968 Tigers throughout year
Detroit — During a year in which the rebuilding Tigers are expected to lose close to 100 games or more, they’ll at least give fans some happy memories to reminisce about.
The Tigers will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1968 Tigers’ World Series-championship team throughout the 2018 season with giveaways and on-field ceremonies, culminating with a weekend to celebrate the 1968 Tigers from Sept. 7-9. On Sept. 8, the 1968 Tigers will be honored before the game, as the 2018 Tigers will take the field in an alternate uniform — a home rarity for the storied franchise.
Fans also will be given 1968 Bobbleheads throughout the season, including Al Kaline (May 26), Bill Freehan (June 2), Willie Horton (July 7) and Mickey Lolich (Aug. 25).
Also back are the popular 1968 replica road jerseys, which will be given away Sept. 8.
The 1984 Tigers will see plenty of love, too — notably Jack Morris and Alan Trammell, who will have their Nos. 47 and 3 retired in ceremonies set for Aug. 12 and Aug. 26, respectively, following their July inductions into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
On Aug. 12, fans will receive a replica Morris Hall of Fame jersey, and on Aug. 26, they’ll receive a replica Trammell Hall of Fame jersey.
In all, the Tigers are planning 29 giveaways, to go with many more special events.
Here’s the complete list.
