Tigers re-sign left-hander Jairo Labourt

Detroit — What a spring it’s been for left-hander Jairo Labourt.

Labourt, who made his big-league debut with the Tigers last season, was put on waivers on Feb. 24, lopped off the 40-man roster to make room for Francisco Liriano.

Within the next two weeks he was picked up and released by two other teams — the Reds and A’s.

His journey came full circle on Wednesday. The Tigers signed him back on a minor-league contract.

The Tigers acquired the 24-year-old, along with Matthew Boyd and Daniel Norris, for David Price in 2015.

He has big-league stuff — a fastball that ranges from 93-95 mph and an above average slider. But, he has never been able to throw strikes consistently at any level. He’s averaged more than five walks per nine innings in his professional career.

He walked seven in six innings with the Tigers last season.

The Tigers haven’t said where he will start the season.
