The Houston Astros have reshuffled their rotation plan and announced ace Justin Verlander will now start the final game before the All-Star break against his former team.
Verlander will start against the Tigers on Sunday, July 15 at 2:10 p.m. in Minute Maid Park.
Verlander is 9-4 with a 2.12 ERA and 0.86 WHIP in his second season with the Astros after being dealt by the Tigers at the trade deadline last season.
The decision by Astros manager A.J. Hinch to pitch Verlander on July 15 means his ace will not be able to pitch in the All-Star Game, which is Tuesday, July 17 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
Verlander still can be recognized as an All-Star, and it would mark his seventh All-Star appearance.
This will be Verlander’s first start against his former team.
