Detroit Tigers prospects Matt Manning, a right-handed pitcher, and second baseman Dawel Lugo have been selected to participate in the All-Star Futures Game on July 15 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
Manning will be on the United States team and Lugo, who is from the Dominican Republic, will be on the International team. The 4 p.m. game will be broadcast live on MLB Network.
The Futures Game precedes the Home Run Derby, which is July 16 at 8 p.m. on ESPN, and the MLB All-Star Game, which is July 17 at 7:30 p.m. on Fox.
Manning, 20, has appeared in 11 games for the Single-A West Michigan Whitecaps in the Midwest League and one for the Lakeland Flying Tigers in the Florida State League. Combined he is 4-3 with a 3.12 ERA and 1.29 WHIP, with 85 strikeouts and 48 hits over 60.2 innings.
Lugo, 23, has played in 78 games for the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens this season. He is hitting .273 with 19 doubles and 34 RBI in 330 at-bats.
Manning was drafted by the Tigers in the first round in 2016. Lugo was acquired in the deal that sent J.D. Martinez to the Arizona Diamondbacks last season.
