Brooklyn – — Ryan Truex had an accident Saturday morning in Sprint Cup practice at Michigan International Speedway.

Truex, a 22-year-old rookie driving in his No. 83 Burger King Toyota, lost control in Turn 2, crashing hard into the wall.

Truex, younger brother of Martin Truex Jr., was taken into the infield medical center and later taken by ambulance to a local hospital for further observation.

“He’s in the hospital and they’re waiting for the doctor to come back in and see if they will clear him to race,” said Joe Williams, Truex’s crew chief. “He was conscious, but talking about his shoulder being hurt. I hope he can race.”

When asked what happened to cause the accident, Williams replied: “I don’t know what happened and we haven’t seen a replay. I haven’t talked to him about it.”

Truex is 26th in points and still searching for his first win of the season.

The Pure Michigan 400 is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
