Dylan Larkin is one of the NHL’s fastest players, and now he’s going to venture into another speed sport.

The Red Wings star has been named grand marshal of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.

Larkin will participate in activities throughout the day on Belle Isle on Saturday, June 4, and give the command, “Drivers, start your engines,” before the start of the first Chevrolet Dual in Detroit at 3:30 p.m.

Larkin, who was born in Waterford and played one season at the University of Michigan, led the Wings in goals his rookie season with 23. He also tied for fourth in points with 45.

He’s currently playing for Team USA in the world championship; the Americans face Canada Saturday in the semifinals.

“Growing up in the Detroit area, I know the tradition of the Grand Prix and the excitement it brings to the city,” said Larkin. “It’s going to be fun to visit Belle Isle, meet some of the drivers and get a chance to ride in the pace car.”
