The Pistons traded forward Tony Mitchell to the Phoenix Suns for Anthony Tolliver, the team announced Wednesday.
Tolliver, 29, plays both forward positions and has career averages of 5.9 points and 3.6 rebounds in 331 games with seven teams since entering the NBA in 2008. This season, he's averaging 3.3 points and 1.8 rebounds with Phoenix in 24 games.
Mitchell was a second-round pick in the 2013 draft but never found his footing, unable to put his freakish athleticism to on-court productivity. The Pistons sent him to the D-League, where he was able to get his only action this season, as he didn't participate in any games under Stan Van Gundy.
With the release of Josh Smith, Van Gundy likely wanted to add more veteran depth in the frontcourt, and Tolliver presumably fills that role
