Terry Foster's Pistons grades 2014-15

Auburn Hills — It is difficult to pass judgment on the Pistons with season-ending grades.
It was a season that can be best described as uneven and inconsistent. The Pistons were all over the place and coach Stan Van Gundy put it best when he said he coached four different teams.
Over the course of the final 54 games they were 27-27, which would have been good enough for a seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. But they could not totally overcome the dreadful 5-23 start. They endured 13- and 10-game losing streaks, yet were still in the playoff hunt until the trade deadline, when they dumped a bunch of solid players to secure the point guard of the future in Reggie Jackson.
It is even difficult to judge Van Gundy the coach and executive. He created chemistry and confidence problems with the trade. But he knows a successful NBA team needs a quarterback and he is banking on Jackson to be that guy.
It was a long-term move that had short-term consequences.
