Auburn Hills -- With the Feb. 18 trade deadline approaching, rumors began to swirl the Pistons were in discussions with the Nets to trade backup point guard Brandon Jennings for forward Thaddeus Young.

Pistons coach and president Stan Van Gundy quickly shot down the notion Thursday.

“I got my email from (general manager) Jeff (Bower) on the discussions that have gone on and there was no mention of Brooklyn and no mention of Brandon in any of it,” Van Gundy said. “But the way (the media) makes (stuff) up this time of year ...”

Van Gundy added he occasionally reads about the trade rumors around the league and finds most of it amusing.

“You know 99.9 percent of stuff that’s out there will never happen,” he said. “Mostly because 98 percent of it is just made up. There’s a lot of things that would fit financially. I could go through the salary book and find a lot of stuff that fits.

“Of course we’d first have to be looking to trade Brandon and second, we’d have to have discussions with another team. But that’s OK. It’s fun this time of year.”
