Pistons center Andre Drummond took a step forward with his game this season, with his first All-Star selection — and his improvement got some notice from the NBA writers.

Drummond, 22, who led the league in rebounding, was named to the All-NBA Third Team, the first Pistons player to achieve that honor since Chauncey Billups in 2006-07. Drummond posted career highs in points (16.2) and rebounds (14.8), adding 1.5 steals and 1.4 blocks last season, helping the Pistons get to the playoffs for the first time in seven seasons.

He also led the league in double-doubles (66) and games with 20-plus points and 20-plus rebounds (five).

Drummond was the third-team center, behind the Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan (first team) and the Kings’ DeMarcus Cousins (second team).

Drummond received 173 total points (13 first-team votes, 26 second, 30 third), the most of any player on the third team, which also included Indiana’s Paul George, San Antonio’s LaMarcus Aldridge, Golden State’s Klay Thompson and Toronto’s Kyle Lowry.

The first-team players were Cleveland’s LeBron James, San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard, Golden State’s Steph Curry, Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook and Jordan.
