Pistons’ Drummond out against Rockets

Detroit — Before Saturday’s game, Detroit Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy talked about the need to take away second-chance buckets and points in the paint against the explosive Houston Rockets.

That task was made infinitely more difficult by the absence of center Andre Drummond, who did not dress Saturday because of bruised ribs on his right side. Drummond returned to the lineup on Friday but took another shot to the ribs during the game in Philadelphia.

He took treatment right up to game time Saturday but was ruled out.

Eric Moreland started in his place.

The Pistons were also without forward Stanley Johnson (strained right hip flexor) and starting point guard Reggie Jackson (right ankle sprain).

The Rockets were without leading scorer James Harden, who missed his third straight game with a hamstring strain.
