The Pistons look to be rounding out their front office and made another key hire on Tuesday.

The team announced they have hired Sachin Gupta as an assistant general manager. Gupta, who was a special adviser to Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey last season, will be in charge of the Pistons’ analytics group

“We are pleased to welcome Sachin Gupta to the Detroit Pistons organization,” Pistons senior adviser Ed Stefanski said in a statement. “Sachin is a creative thinker, extremely intelligent, and has a great handle on the analytical side of basketball operations systems.

“His analytics and salary cap background will be a tremendous resource while serving a leadership role for our basketball operations team.”

Gupta previously served as vice president of basketball operations for the Philadelphia 76ers during their rebuilding era — nicknamed "The Process" — in 2014 under then-general manager Sam Hinkie. Prior to that, he helped manage the Rockets’ salary cap under Morey.

Earlier in his career, Gupta worked for two years at ESPN and helped build the popular “NBA Trade Machine” feature, with his familiarity with the NBA salary cap.

Gupta earned a master’s degree from Stanford’s Business School and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from MIT.
