Reports: Ex-UM coach Brady Hoke joins Panthers

Former Michigan head coach Brady Hoke will be hired by the Carolina Panthers as their defensive line coach, according to multiple reports.

The news was first reported by Alex Marvez of the Sporting News.

This will be Hoke’s first job in the NFL.

Hoke, 59, was Tennessee’s assistant head coach and defensive line coach last season. He was not retained after Tennessee head coach Butch Jones was fired.

In 2016, Hoke was Oregon’s defensive coordinator but remained there only one season as head coach Mark Helfrich was fired.

Hoke was Michigan’s head coach from 2011-14 and was fired after compiling a 31-20 record. Prior to the Michigan job he was the head coach at San Diego State (13-12 record) and Ball State (34-38), his alma mater.

Also Monday, the Panthers said they will interview Marty Hurney, Jimmy Raye III and Lake Dawson for the team’s general manager position.

Hurney is currently the Panthers interim GM, but his contract expires June 30.
