Allen Park — Less than two weeks after signing him, the Lions released cornerback Drayton Florence on Tuesday.
The Lions hoped Florence, an 11-year veteran who played in Detroit in 2012, could provide veteran depth at a position of weakness, but he looked a step slow in practice and Friday’s exhibition against the Raiders.
With Florence’s release, the roster is down to 89 players. The Lions could add another free agent, but with the roster needing to be trimmed to 75 by next Tuesday, there’s a chance they will leave the slot open.
At practice Tuesday, the Lions again looked healthy. Safety DeJon Gomes (neck) missed his second straight day, and wide receiver TJ Jones (shoulder) was out as he’s still on the physically unable to perform list. All other players participated in the 30-minute portion open to the media.
