Lions’ Ndamukong Suh won’t be fined for hit on Chad Henne, NFL says

The Detroit News

In a bit of surprise, the NFL said Friday that Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh will not be fined for his roughing-the-passer penalty on Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne.

In Aug. 22’s exhibition game at Ford Field, Suh was flagged after launching and leading with his helmet as he barreled into Henne (Michigan). After the game, Lions coach Jim Caldwell called it “a foul, plain and simple.”

Suh has lost $374,294 from fines and suspensions in his career stemming from on-field infractions. He met with Troy Vincent, the NFL’s executive vice president of football operations, this past offseason to talk about how he can avoid fine-inducing penalties.

Lions rookie safety Jerome Couplin, who received an unnecessary roughness call in the exhibition game against the Jaguars, will not be fined either, the NFL said.
