Allen Park — The Lions restructured running back Reggie Bush's contract Thursday.

Financial details of Bush's restructure were not immediately available Thursday, but the Lions converted some of his base salary into a signing bonus, which will free cap space for the team.

Bush had a $4.5 million salary cap figure this year, the second in his four-year, $16 million contract.

USA Today first reported the restructuring.

The move gives more salary cap space to a Lions team that will likely continue to search for help on the free-agent market this season because of injuries at cornerback, safety and right tackle.

The Lions could also be in the market for a kicker soon with early struggles by rookie Nate Freese.

The Lions restructured safety Glover Quin's contract this summer, too.
