Allen Park — Lions receiver Calvin Johnson has had his share of injuries in recent years, but has soldiered through many of them to continue to take the field.

Johnson will be honored for his perseverance with the Ed Block Courage Award, given to the Lions player who exemplifies sportsmanship and has overcome injury and/or adversity to excel on the field.

Johnson will be honored at the Lions Courage House Dinner on Oct. 28 at Ford Field, benefiting HAVEN, an Oakland County center for the prevention and treatment of domestic violence.

"Calvin was a logical choice for this award having played through and overcome multiple injuries in the last year," Lions head athletic trainer Kevin Bastin said. "Calvin embodies what this award is all about, through his compassion for his teammates, commitment to his sport, and work in the community."
