Kyle Orton will replace E.J. Manuel as the Bills' starting quarterback for their game against the Lions on Sunday.

"We can't keep going in the direction that we're going," Bills coach Doug Marrone said Monday. "When decisions are made, it's about one thing: what puts us in the best position to win?"

The Lions (3-1) and Bills (2-2) kick off at 1 p.m. at Ford Field (Fox).

Manuel has completed 76-of-131 passes (58.0 percent) this season for 838 yards, with five TD and three interceptions.

On Sunday, in the Bills' 23-17 loss to the Texans, Manuel completed 21-of-44 passes for 225 yards, with two TD and two interceptions, including one that was returned 80 yards for a score by J.J. Watt.

Marrone said the Lions game was a "great opportunity" for Manuel to take in the game from the sidelines and work on correcting his mistakes.

Orton, 31, the 10-year NFL veteran, has not seen game action this season.
