Allen Park — Lions running back Joique Bell missed practice Wednesday after suffering a concussion in Sunday's 24-17 win over the New York Jets, but coach Jim Caldwell indicated that he's improving.

"Joique Bell is doing OK," Caldwell said before practice.

All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson also missed practice Wednesday, but said earlier that his injured ankle is "definitely better" than it was last week. Johnson missed practice Wednesday and Thursday last week and was limited in Sunday's game.

Defensive tackle Nick Fairley (knee) was limited. He limped off the field in the fourth quarter Sunday. Defensive end Devin Taylor (knee) was also limited.

Right tackle LaAdrian Waddle (calf) was a full participant for the first time since suffering his injury in Week 1, a good sign that he'll return Sunday.

Defensive back Don Carey (hamstring) was also a full participant after missing practice all last week.

Cornerback Cassius Vaughn (ankle), linebacker Travis Lewis (quad) and running back Theo Riddick (hamstring) were all out, but ran with a trainer to the side of the practice field. Vaughn said he will "sweet talk" the coaches and hopes to return this Sunday after missing the past two games with an injury he suffered during practice.

Tight end Joseph Fauria (ankle) was also out.
