Fox 2 wins rights to Lions' exhibition games

Lions fifth-round draft pick, fullback Michael Burton, works through the ropes Friday.

The Lions and WJBK (Channel 2) have reached a multi-year agreement for the Fox affiliate to broadcast their exhibition games starting this season, a source with knowledge of the situation told The Detroit News on Friday.

The source requested anonymity because WJBK had not announced the deal.

Lions exhibition games have been on WXYZ (Channel 7), the ABC affiliate, the last few years. Both sides opted out of their agreement last month.

This exhibition season, WJBK will broadcast three of the four games, at home against the New York Jets and Buffalo and a road game against Washington; the game at Jacksonville is a national broadcast, to air on CBS.

There's no immediate word who will be the on-air talent for WJBK during the exhibition season, though Dan Miller, the Lions' radio voice during the regular season and the sports director at WJBK, seems like the most logical choice to do the play-by-play.

Mike Renda, general manager at WJBK, did not immediately return a phone call from The Detroit News on Thursday afternoon.
