Nate Burleson said in January he was still learning about how to excel in his new career in television.

Apparently, the Lions and Fox Sports Detroit think the former receiver is a quick study.

The Lions and FSD announced Thursday that Burleson would join the broadcast team for the three 2015 preseason games that will air on Fox 2 (WJBK-TV). Burleson will work alongside play-by-play man Matt Shepard and former Lions tight end Rob Rubick.

Burleson, 33, joined the NFL Network as an analyst after the Cleveland Browns cut him last August. He was with the Lions from 2010-13, gaining popularity with his teammates and fans with his energetic persona.

FSD will host pre- and post-game shows this year as part of the Lions' new contract with Fox 2. The three preseason games televised locally are against the Jets on Aug. 13, Washington on Aug. 20 and the Bills on Sept. 3, while the fourth — Jacksonville on Aug. 28 — will air nationally on CBS.
