Lions sign tackle Mills to practice squad
The Lions surprisingly didn’t add an offensive tackle to their practice squad last week, but found one with NFL starting experience on Wednesday.
The team announced the signing of Jordan Mills, previously of the Chicago Bears, to the 10-man practice squad. A corresponding move has not yet been announced.
Mills, 24, was a fifth-round pick from Louisiana Tech in 2013. He started all 16 games at right tackle as a rookie and 13 in 2014, but was among the lowest-rated players by Pro Football Focus each season.
With a new coaching staff in place, the Bears made Mills one of their final cuts two weeks ago. The Dallas Cowboys claimed him off waivers the next day, but waived him after a short stint Monday.
The Lions have four offensive tackles on the 53-man roster — Riley Reiff, LaAdrian Waddle, Cornelius Lucas and Corey Robinson — but it’s unclear if the team would be ready to insert Robinson, a seventh-round pick in May, if injuries arise.
