With the Lions planning to sign George Winn to the active roster Wednesday, they already found their next practice squad running back.

Marion Grice, a sixth-round pick by the Chargers in 2014, will join the team at practice Wednesday after impressing in his workout Tuesday.

The 24-year-old Grice started his career on San Diego’s practice squad before the Cardinals signed him last September. He played 10 games for Arizona with 15 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown and seven catches for 29 yards.

The Cardinals waived Grice after an injury settlement before the 2015 season began, and he’s been a free agent since, though he had another workout in Jacksonville.

The Lions are promoting Winn to replace rookie running back Zach Zenner, who will go on injured reserve after suffering four cracked ribs and a partially collapsed lung Sunday.

The Lions also announced the signing of wide receiver Ryan Spadola, who played three games for the Jets and one for the Dolphins in 2013, to the practice squad
