Josh Katzenstein, John Niyo and Bob Wojnowski of The Detroit News predict the outcome of Monday's Lions-Saints game.

Josh Katzenstein: The Lions can absolutely win this game, and considering they have the better defense, they should win it. But the Saints have won 16 of their last 17 home night games. In a shootout, New Orleans has just enough to edge the Lions. Saints 34-30

John Niyo: This one could be a shootout. But only if the Lions figure out a way to get Calvin Johnson involved early. Hard to imagine they won’t after last week’s effort in St. Louis. And this being a Monday night game, chances are it’ll go down to the wire. Saints 28-24

Bob Wojnowski: Drew Brees still throws and the Saints still score, but thanks to an awful defense, their playoff hopes are almost nil at 5-8. If the Lions are to run the ball with any consistency, this would be the game to do it, against the NFL’s worst run defense. Rookie Ameer Abdullah has shown flashes of a breakout performance, but never the whole thing. With little to play for — other than that coveted top-five draft pick — the Lions stumble toward the finish. Saints 34-23
