Lions sign center Cave from practice squad

Allen Park — The Lions didn’t wait long to fill cornerback Bill Bentley’s roster spot as they signed center Braxston Cave from the practice squad.

Cave, 26, has been on the practice squad all season, and his promotion is likely an indication that starting center Travis Swanson’s status is in doubt for the season finale Sunday in Chicago (1 p.m., FOX).

Swanson missed practice Wednesday, and although Manny Ramirez would be in line to start, Cave’s time with the Lions might make him better suited for backup duty than Gabe Ikard, whom the team claimed two weeks ago.
