Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin had four head coaching interviews last year, and he appears set to match that total again this year.

Austin will interview for the vacancy with the New York Giants Thursday, according to ESPN.

Austin has already interviewed for the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns, and the Philadelphia Eagles plan to interview him, according to

The Lions ranked second in total defense in Austin’s first year in 2014, which helped the team go 11-5 and reach the postseason. In 2015, the Lions fell to 18th defensively with defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh leaving and linebacker DeAndre Levy injured nearly all season, but the defense showed improvement in the second half of the year.

Lions coach Jim Caldwell said the team has a contingency plan in place if Austin leaves, though he declined to say who was in line to be the next defensive coordinator.
