The Lions are losing one of their top assistant coaches to a promotion with another team.

Curtis Modkins, who was promoted to run-game coordinator during 2015, will be the new offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, according to an ESPN report.

Modkins joined the Lions as running backs coach in 2013, and he remained on staff after Jim Caldwell replaced Jim Schwartz as head coach in 2014.

Before coming to Detroit, Modkins spent three years as offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills.

Now, he'll join new 49ers coach Chip Kelly in San Francisco.
