The Lions moved quickly to replace Curtis Modkins.

David Walker, who worked with coach Jim Caldwell in Indianapolis, will be the new running backs coach, according to Fox Sports.

Modkins is becoming the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers after three years coaching running backs in Detroit.

Walker was with the Colts from 2011-14, but didn’t coach in the NFL last season. He coached running backs in college for 16 years, working at Syracuse from 1995-2004 and Pittsburgh from 2005-10 before joining Caldwell’s staff in 2011. Walker remained with the Colts after they replaced Caldwell with Chuck Pagano in 2012.
