In his latest mock draft, ESPN’s Mel Kiper still has the Lions taking Alabama defensive lineman Jarran Reed with their 16th pick in the NFL draft.
Reed is a 6-foot-3, 311-pound East Mississippi Community College transfer who had 56 tackles, including 4.5 for loss and a sack in 2015 at Alabama.
For the Lions, it’s a matter of pragmatics, Kiper says: “The Lions need to add talent to the interior of the defensive line even if Haloti Ngata returns for another year (or more). Reed isn't going to get sacks, but he immediately upgrades the run defense and is the kind of player who makes everyone around him better because he's so hard to move and can occupy blockers.”
Kiper has Michigan State’s offensive tackle Jack Conklin going to the Eagles at No. 13 in his 2016 Mock Draft 2.0. (pay site) Kiper had Conklin going to the Raiders at No. 14 in his first mock draft.
