Lions' Austin takes gander at Alabama stars

Three defensive players from Alabama will likely go in the first round of the draft, and Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin is taking a close look at the Crimson Tide’s talent.

Videos from NFL.com’s Chase Goodbread show Austin as well as Lions director of college scouting Lance Newmark attending Alabama’s pro day Wednesday.

A couple of the videos showed Austin watching defensive line drills that included projected first-round tackle A’Shawn Robinson and Jarran Reed.

Linebacker Reggie Ragland is also a projected first-round pick.

The Lions had a formal interview with Ragland at the combine last month where Ragland said he met with general manager Bob Quinn and coach Jim Caldwell among others.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick, Colts coach Chuck Pagano and Steelers GM Kevin Colbert were also in attendance.
