Mel Kiper has a new three-round mock draft that reflects last week’s big Rams-Titans trade.
The ESPN draft expert predicts that the Lions will take Clemson defensive end Shaq Lawson with the No. 16 pick in the first round (pay site). That’s the same pick Josh Katzenstein of The Detroit News projects for the Lions in his latest mock draft.
In the second round, No. 46 overall, Kiper has the Lions taking Auburn offensive tackle Shon Coleman, and in the third, No. 95, Texas defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway.
Kiper on the Lions: “I'd like to get an offensive tackle, but I'm not going to reach in Round 1 and instead get a polished defensive end who can jump into the rotation and take some pass-rushing pressure off Ziggy Ansah. Lawson was a machine creating negative plays at Clemson last season -- he led the country in tackles for loss -- and has the frame to hold up immediately. Coleman gives me starting potential at tackle, and Ridgeway can jump into the rotation immediately as a defensive tackle.”
Kiper says the Rams, the new owners of the No. 1 pick, will opt for California quarterback Jared Goff over North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz, whom Kiper has going No. 2 to the Browns.
Ole Miss OT Laremy Tunsil (Chargers), Florida State DB Jalen Ramsey (Cowboys) and UCLA LB Myles Jack (Jaguars) round out Kiper’s top five. He also projects the Buccaneers taking Michigan State OT Jack Conklin ninth.
Other players of note in Kiper’s three-rounder:
Jets: Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook, second round
Panthers: Michigan State receiver Aaron Burbridge, second round
Bills: Western Michigan guard Willie Beavers, third round
Texans: Michigan State defensive end Shilique Calhoun, third round
Cardinals: Michigan center Graham Glasgow, third round
