McShay: Alabama DT Robinson to Lions

The countdown to the NFL draft has reached one week, and ESPN’s Todd McShay has a new mock draft (5.0) that includes the Lions grabbing Alabama defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson with the No. 16 pick (pay site).

McShay: “I'm not as high on Robinson (6-4, 307) as others … but he could go in the top 20, especially to a team such as Detroit, which needs to start planning for the future at defensive tackle. Though Robinson has tremendous raw ability, his motor runs a little too hot and cold for my liking.”

Josh Katzenstein’s latest mock draft (3.0) for The Detroit News has the Lions opting for Clemson defensive end Kevin Dodd with their first pick.

McShay projects a lower slot for Dodd, to the Panthers at No. 30.

McShay on Dodd: “Dodd has only one season of full-time starting experience, but he took advantage of his opportunity, posting 23.5 tackles for loss. That was second overall in the FBS and up from 2.5 the season before.”

Like most analysts, McShay thinks the Rams will select California quarterback Jared Goff with the No. 1 pick, over North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz. McShay projects Wentz going second to the Eagles and Florida State DB Jalen Ramsey third to the Chargers. McShay also predicts that the Buccaneers will grab Michigan State offensive tackle Jack Conklin with the ninth pick.
