The NFL is continuing to explore locations where it can host games overseas, and Lions defensive end Ziggy Ansah has another idea for the league.

“I would love to see a game in Africa,” he said Thursday.

Ansah, who grew up in Ghana, spent a month back home this offseason and said the game is growing in popularity in his homeland. He even met a few people on his trip who were eager to learn how to play football.

So far, the NFL’s international series has resulted in annual games in London, and there will be three more there this year. There will also be a game in Mexico City in November.

The NFL is also looking into holding games in Germany and China in future seasons, and there’s a proposal to hold the Pro Bowl in Australia. But Ansah thinks Africa would be a good setting for football, too.

“That would be good, and I think there’s a lot of potential back in Africa,” he said. “I know that one day the NFL will have a game out there just like we do in London.”

If the NFL ever has a game in Africa, league officials would surely try to find a location where fans would pack the stadium, but Ansah wasn’t sure what would be the best option.

“I wouldn’t mind if they had it in Ghana, but I’m sure there’s going to be other venues out there,” he said.
