Report: Lions host free-agent DE Kroy Biermann

Kroy Biermann

The Lions are hosting defensive end Kroy Biermann on a free-agent visit on Wednesday, according to an NFL Network report.

Biermann, 30, was a fifth-round pick by Atlanta in 2008 and spent all eight years of his career with the Falcons.

After starting a career-high 15 games in 2014 with 75 tackles and 4.5 sacks, Biermann returned to a reserve role last season and had 54 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Although the Lions will continue to evaluate many members of the free-agent pool, they could certainly use another veteran pass rusher. Behind likely starters Ziggy Ansah and Devin Taylor, nine-year veteran Wallace Gilberry is the only defensive end with more than one season of NFL experience.

The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Biermann also has some experience at strong-side linebacker, another position where the Lions lack proven depth.
