Lions sign free-agent LB Raphael Kirby
Allen Park — With DeAndre Levy still on the non-football injury list with an unknown ailment, the Lions added another linebacker to the roster on Monday, signing undrafted free agent Raphael Kirby.
A captain for the Miami Hurricanes last season, the 6-foot, 236-pound Kirby suffered a season-ending ACL tear in October. At the time, he was leading the team with 44 tackles.
Kirby, unable to participate in most of the drills at the scouting combine this February due to his injury and rehab, still managed to raise the bar 27 times on the bench press, second-most among linebacker prospects at the event this year.
To clear room for Kirby, the Lions released linebacker Dominique Tovell, whom they had signed as a free agent last week.
The team also activated offensive tackle Corey Robinson off the PUP list.
“Corey was really making some good progress in the spring, then he got his injury,” Caldwell said. “We’re looking forward to getting him out there rolling here shortly. We’re progressing into things, but I’m excited about it.”
