Pittsburgh — The Detroit Lions didn’t dress seven players for Friday’s preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Running back Ameer Abdullah, tight end Eric Ebron, wide receiver Andre Caldwell and linebacker Jon Bostic were out with injury.

Also sidelined were tight end Brandon Pettigrew and wide receiver Corey Fuller, who are on the physically unable to perform list, and linebacker DeAndre Levy, who remains out with a non-football injury.

Abdullah has been practicing but in a red jersey. He’s still not ready for contact following offseason shoulder surgery. Ebron is sitting with a leg injury suffered during last Saturday’s mock game at Ford Field. Caldwell has a cast on his right hand and Bostic went down with a leg injury during Wednesday’s joint practice with the Steelers.

Cornerback Darius Slay is in uniform for the contest after sitting Wednesday’s practice.
